Steps that Last

Steps that Last

Years ago Chris was building beautiful, teak steps that were works of art. He can still do that, but teak, despite its resiliency, is not impervious to the marine environment and after a short time, they require significant, costly maintenance.

One day a captain asked if Chris could build something more durable, for day-to-day use. Something that could be deployed in the yard, used in inclement weather or anytime charter guests were not on board. Chris did what he does so well, went to the design board, and Stowaway Steps were born.

Crafted from King StarBoard and engineered carefully after hundreds of design iterations to improve subtle but critical aspects of the steps performance, these dockside boarding companions drew some attention. He knew he had a hit when he started seeing knock-offs appear from other manufacturers - copying earlier, inferior designs.

But they simply don't compare - you can't cheat the hard work and the precision that Chris insists on. From the improved connection between the parts, to the drainage system that clears water from the top of the steps, critically improving safety, Stowaway Steps are superior.

Now, two years later, I'm proud to say we've been using our step on board our trawler Wanderbird for YEARS in rough environments. It's lived through far too many months on the hard, at the yard and years on the dock and it looks like the day we first assembled it.

Our step may have started as a Stowaway but it's become a valued member of our crew.
